Luftwaffe Fighter Loss 30 March 1944
Gentlemen,
according to official German sources on 30 March 1944 eight fighters in the area of Lfl. 3 - France, sectors of 4th and 5th Jagddivision - flew Begleitschutz, losing one of their number shot down. Begleitschutz is a term normally used in connection with escorting other aircraft as opposed to Geleitschutz, which stands for escorting ships. Unfortunately no more details are given. In my records of JGs 2 and 26 I cannot find a single loss that could be attributed to enemy action on this date. Can anybody enlighten me what unit was concerned, what unit was escorted and how and where said loss occured ? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. KR Jochen Prien |
