Crashed on dive bombing exercise. Code reported as "N.D.X.C.S." , so ND+CS is correct. FYI, this was brand new a/c, less than a month old. -Ed

Re: 21.07.1940, Erg.KG4

EdNorth, this crash seems to bare similarities to the crash on 27.07.1940:
Erg.KGr.4.
Junkers Ju88 ( ). Crashed during dive-bombing practice at Fassberg, Germany. Lt. Robert Gessner (F), Fw. Kurt Hans Fritz Hirscher plus 2 NCO killed. Aircraft ND+CS a write-off.
Same code ND+CS so guess this was replacement aircraft for the one lost on 21.07.1940?
Do you know the name of the other 2 crewmen?

Re: 21.07.1940, Erg.KG4

Strange. What other "the" crash on 27.07.? There was one NA+DJ of same unit 26. but none 27.07. that I know of. Code ND+CS was Stammkennung, ErgKGr. 4 did not have any particular unit code, other that inherited from other..
Please look up definitions on Luftwaffe code use - "No other had this" so far as is known. Date is 21.07. in my files and is same source as Matti Salonen.
Unit was teaching Dive Bombing. Nothing strange have two similar crashes.

What source do you have for ND+CS on 27.07.?

There seemed to be some confusion between the crash of 21st and 27th.
As last comment was 2005, I just wondered if this had been resolved.

I have removed ND+CS from the 27th crash (Don't shoot me, just the way I read it. Apologise to you

Re: 21.07.1940, Erg.KG4

No confusion here as I read this. The 27th crash might even have been non-a/c or ground / traffic accident. But this has not been resolved.

Next time please, if posting up an new thread, include link(s) to any prior discussion(s) on such questons. It so happens (I or anyone else) can not read minds, but I try very hard do so!

Better still just post new entry in old thread asking if more info/clarification has come along. "Last comment was 2005" read 2015, please.
