Brian,
The following suggests that the RAF pilot was; 26008 Group Captain (Pilot) Walter Donald BUTLER RAF, CO. No.285 Wing. http://www.57thfightergroup.org/pictures/64/6.html http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/207929/ Hurricane IIA Z4953 - 238/260/450/335/WDCU - Hit by USAAF P-40 while parked, Rocca Bernardo LG, 19.9.43. Re: Lt Eugene Kowalski 0-736250 USAAF KiA
Hi Col
Yes, I saw his name as a casualty for that date, but had doubts. However, your information seems to fit. But why would he have been flying a Hurricane? Particularly in these circumstances. I know very little about Grp Capt Butler or his flying career. A bit more investigation required, methinks! Cheers Brian |
