Of course we are, not least because there is no evidence that the D-9 ever served with any unit in Italy and and no D-9 was in operational service anywhere on 31 July 1944. All of this has been understood for years and can be found in numerous books on the Fw 190. The D-9 entered service with III./JG 54 at Oldenburg in northwest Germany during September 1944 the Gruppe was engaged in training through into November. Occasional combats took place during that time but even during November there were only eight operations (totalling 36 sorties).
