Re: 109 in libya

Hi,

I found two possiblities for W.Nr 6431 'S9 + IS', listed below:

On 2 October 1942 Lt. Norbert Schmidt of 8./Z.G. 1 was shot down and wounded by enemy fighters near El Alamein in Bf 109 E-7 W.Nr 6431 'S9 + IS'.

Alternatively: on 1 November 1942 Bf 109 E-7 W.Nr 6431 'Black S9 + IS' of 2./Sch.G. 2 made a forced landing at an unknown location due to engine damage on a combat mission, and was destroyed.

Sources
Genst.Gen.Qu.6.Abt. loss material [for the second alternative]

Vasco, John The Sting of the Luftwaffe: Schnellkampfgeschwader 210 and Zerstörergeschwader 1 “Wespengeschwader” in World War II, Schiffer Military History, Atglen, 2001. [for the first alternative]

Cheers,
Andrew A.

hello Andrew and thanks for this information !

It confirm my information about the W.Nr6431 but does it mean there are two 109E W.Nr 6431 ?
they aren't any details about the position of the planes (erg, sand, military position, ...) ?

even if I do not find the planes, thank you very much !
Phil
