JU 88 C or R with 2 diferent engines type on same plane
Recently I came across a picture of a JU 88 been attact by a mosquito on "Britain at war " magazine late edition .This plane , if you look carefuly, yuo can easely identify that it had the left engine a Jumo 211 and the right a BMW 801.Is it possible to have two diferente type of engine on same plane? It is a matter of engine suply shortage or its a knew type of sub series. Its a C-6 or R-2 sub type possible.

Re: JU 88 C or R with 2 diferent engines type on same plane
Hi Eduardo,
I can't really believe that Ju88 were equipped with different engines. Maybe someone that also has the magazine you are referring can confirm that, as I don't have the magazine. Cheers, Simon |

Re: JU 88 C or R with 2 diferent engines type on same plane
Hi, Eduardo...
To me, the right engine has an asymetric blister under the cowling, like an A-4 subtype. In fact, I'd say it probably is an A or D subtype, rather than a C or R... the nose appears to be the original 'beetle-eye' type as well, which the early bomber/reconnaissance versions had. I'd also have to agree with Simon in that it's unlikely two different powerplants would have been used. I've never seen such an arrangement. I'm not fully acquainted with the technical side of things, but perhaps the earlier Jumo and later BMW might have had different power capacity? So I don't think that would make for a very stable arrangement, although I might be wrong. Regards, Paul |

Re: JU 88 C or R with 2 diferent engines type on same plane
Both engines look like Jumos to me. It is possible to make out the ring of cooling gills near the front of the cowling - on the right engine flames/smoke are coming out of these gills. This rules out it being a BMW - apart from the oil cooler fairing underneath mentioned above.

Some Cs still had the blister nose with holes cut for the additional weapons. But I doubt that the aircraft would have had two different engines.
