Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'

Hello, I'm looking for someone who can help with a question regarding the shape of the rudder of the Arado 234's.

I've come across a technical drawing of the 'Seitenleitwerk' in the book by Manfred Griehl "Strahlflugzeug Arado Ar 234 ''Blitz''.

It looks as if the Arado Ar 234 A prototypes had a smaller rudder than the later production Ar 234 B's?

Maybe it's me but I'm having a hard time seeing the difference when looking at photos of the different Ar 234 models?

I would very much appreciate it, if someone could shed some light into this.

Thank you: Kent

Re: Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'

I think this drawing is not same, possibly an projeted one. Lots of such drawings found in captured docs, but Griehl & Co sometimes muddle the pond.

this was production one...

I can post pictures I took last year of F1+GS, but plenty on the net already.

Re: Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'

Thank's for your reply. I think you are right. Although many drawings and profiles show a larger rudder, I haven't been able to find any photos of Arado's with a large rudder as in the Arado 'Werkzeichnung' published by "Griehl & Co"

But the exists and it would be nice to learn the real story behind it, if possible...

Re: Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'

The drawing suggest a possible modification to the leitwerk. The dotted line refers to the shape of the altes or old version.
