RAF Losses 11 Aug 40
I/JG 52 claimed a Blenheim and 3 Spitfires around midday on 11 Aug 40 in the vicinity of Calais. Can anyone confirm whether T1816/53 Sqn and R6918 & R6630 of 610 Sqn came down on land or in the sea. I suspect the only land candidate was R6918 as Flt Sgt J H Tanner is the only casualty not missing. Reason for asking is I have an 8mm film taken by 1/JG 52 of an RAF aircraft being shot down and then visiting the crash site of a Spitfire

Re: RAF Losses 11 Aug 40
Hi Chris,
No hard and fast fact for the Blenheim but looking at the crew details of one casualty, one evaded and one missing a land crash would seem more possible. Missing off the coast of France. Sgt Inskip has no known grave and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. P/O Bardolph, a Canadian from Vernon, was severely wounded and died from his wounds in the German Military Hospital at Château-des-Domaines, Hardinghen on the 17th August. He is buried in Hardinghen Churchyard, Pas-de-Calais. P/O Coleson evaded. They were on a Dundee Patrol from Detling. Took off at 10:24 hrs. Regards Ross |
