Ludwig Meister's claims 22/23 March 44?
Folks I wonder if you can help sort out some conflicting information about Ludwig Meister's claims for the 22nd and 23rd March 1944?
Previously I had one claim for Meister on 22nd March 44: 22.03.44, Hptm. Ludwig Meister, 1./NJG 4, 4-mot Flzg, 05 Ost S / JR Gütersloh, 21.51, 2025/I, Anerk Nr.24 (Reich, West and Südfront, Jan to Apr 1944. Vol. I): Source: http://www.lesbutler.ip3.co.uk/tony/tonywood.htm However I have just found this entry for a claim on 23rd March 44: 38., 23.3.1944, -, Lancaster, 1./NJG 4, Near St Omer, Lancaster of 514 Sqn RAF Source: http://www.luftwaffe.cz/meister.html: This matches with Lanc DS815 of 514 Sqn lost 22/23rd March 44 on a raid to Frankfurt. Chorley shows it crashing near St Omer due to enemy fighter fire. I calculated the time of the crash at approx 23:45. I am confused Which is correct? I hope you can help. regards Robert Last edited by rlapes; 8th May 2009 at 23:52. Reason: typo |

Re: Ludwig Meister's claims 22/23 March 44?
Folks
This morning I came across this website: http://membres.lycos.fr/asduciel/meister.htm Sa onzième et dernière victoire « française » est obtenue le 23 mars à 0h15 lorsque les obus de son Bf 110 mettent hors d'état de nuire un Lancaster qui va s'abattre à 15 kilomètres au nord-ouest de St Omer. Their eleventh and final "French" victory was on 23 March at 0:15 when the shells of his Bf 110 brought down a Lancaster 15 kilometers north-west of St Omer. It confirms that Meister claims a Lancaster at 00:15 on 23rd March 44. It goes on to explain that they then flew on to Messerschmitt at Hildesheim to get the a/c serviced and for a decent meal and a good sleep. On returning to their base in Belgium they were intercepted by a P-47 of 358FG/367FS flown by Capt. E.H. Spietsma and forced Meister to crash land. Thanks to Mark who PM'd me with confirmation that Theo Boiten's 'Nachtjagd War Diaries Volume 1' (mine is on order) also support the 23rd March being correct. So what does the 22nd March claim refer to? regards Robert |
