"The Autobahn Air Force"
Dear All,
This well-known article appeared in the May 1980 issue of Airpower. The photos of Me 262's taken along or near the Autobahn are mainly unique, as I haven't seen most of them used anywhere else. The source of the photos is given as MILPHOTO. Does anyone know if this source still exists and, if so, how I might be able to contact them? Thanks in advance for any help offered. Regards, Richard |

Re: "The Autobahn Air Force"
Hello Richard,
If I remember well MILPHOTO (another way to say "copyright reserved"!) was a photo bank well used during the 70s and at the beginning at the 80s (After that I don't know I started another life). It was a time nobody did really care of sources like today... It mainly did cover US planes, official agencies, press photos and Veterans pictures as well. If I dare - I won't bet but I'm almost sure he knows - try to contact Kemon01 through his Flickr photostream. Hope it helps. Regards, Franck. |

Re: "The Autobahn Air Force"
Dear Franck,
Thanks for the quick response and lead. I went to Flickr and entered Kemon01 in the search engine, but this led me to photos by others, but not Kemon01. Nor, was it quite clear, how to make contact with any of the providers. Any tips or suggestions? Regards, Richard |

Re: "The Autobahn Air Force"
Dear Ed,
I have the magazine article containing the Brunnthal photos and am glad to hear that a book is forthcoming. Are you Kemon01? I just took an initial look at his massive photos based on the link you provided. The photos to which I refer show various images of Me 262's along or near the Autobahn, probably many of them around Scheppach, not Brunnthal. Brunnthal was noted for its large aircraft graveyard. The photos were provided my MILPHOTO and I was hoping to get better definition scans or prints of these, along with any descriptive text. The article is rather vague about their locations. Regards, Richard |

Re: "The Autobahn Air Force"
Richard,
No I am not "Kemon01", I happened knowing of "Kemon01" collection on Flickr.com and had bookmarked in my browser. I have only been assisting two German researchers with finding pic´s and indentities of the aircraft stored / collected at Brunnthal near that Autobahn at wars end. But thinking agin, I think the Autobahn photos in Airpower (I have copy of it I think, but not retraced) perhaps relate to other location. regards ed |

Re: "The Autobahn Air Force"
Dear Oberst and Ed,
The 2 Autobahn photos within your link Oberst are not the photos that appeared in "The Autobahn Air Force" article. Ed, as I said, the author is vague as to the locations of his photos, although 1 or 2 were clearly taken at Scheppach. They're unique photos, thus my interest in trying to chase them down, even though the trail is so cold as the chase is likely a lost cause. Regards, Richard |

Re: "The Autobahn Air Force"
Dear Oberst,
Thanks for the photo. I need to point out that the production facility at Scheppach was Kuno I, not Kuno II. Unfortunately, this error keeps rearing its ugly head. Regards, Richard |
