DVL - Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt

Hi
'
Could you please help me and provide with some information about DVL - "Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt" what translates to German Laboratory for Aviation... ?

Was the DVL a manufacturer of planes or engines during IIWW? Or the only purpose was to make a lab tests?

Anyone seen that kind of stamp: "DVL II a 1.29" ???

thank You
JM

It's an interesting question. Its function was primarily research oriented. Here's a Wikepedia link - http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsch...%BCr_Luftfahrt

Unfortunately, little has been published on the DVL and I am not aware of anyone specifically researching the DVL. There are quite a few potentially interesting reports at the PRO which might help fill out the picture but as with many questions of the structure of the German aviation industry, you'd pretty much have to do your own research if you are to advance your knowledge.

Re: DVL - Deutsche Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt

Hi,

I posted that question because I have got the piece of aluminium casting with a mentioned stamp. It was founded at a plane crash site. I am trying to find out what plane it could be. Also there was found a part with FL 32256 number which i cannot explain. Everything seems to be strange in this case, that's why I am asking for help.
thank You
regards
JM

I'm not really into aviation archaeology so I'm not the best person to answer this. To my mind I'd guess IIa would be an Abteilung of the DVL but I've no idea as to what functions it might have performed with the remainder of the stamp being a date but that's pure conjecture on my part.
