Seeking photos of Lt Siegfried Schnell of 4./JG2 who won RK on 09.11.40

Hello,

The "Eagles over Europe" Working Group is compiling the profile artwork packages for Lt. Siegfried Schnell. He was initially an enlisted pilot in 4./JG2 during his 1940 career, achieving his 20th victory on 07.11.40, and was awarded the RK two days later. I need information and photos to complete these artwork packages.

1) All the RK and pilot bios refer to him as being in 4./JG2 at the beginning of the war. This isn't possible because II./JG2 didn't exist until 15.12.39. In what unit was he serving at the beginning of the war?

2) What was the a/c number on any of the planes that he flew, especially in the Oct-Nov., 1940, time frame.

3) I need a photo showing his rudder scoreboard with either 19 or 20 victory tabs. There are four photos of him and his a/c, W.Nr. 1232, in the ECPA Collection, but none of them show the a/c number. His scoreboard in the ECPA photos shows 16 victory tabs, but I need to see what it looked like at the time of his RK award.

Who can help with either information or photos for this pilot?

Regards,

Larry Hickey

Re: Seeking photos of Lt Siegfried Schnell of 4./JG2 who won RK on 09.11.40

Hello,

We now have a photo of Schnell's a/c scoreboard showing eleven victory tabs, and excellent photo coverage of the pilot. What we still don't have are his a/c number, despite having photos of most of the a/c assigned to 4./JG2 during the spring-summer of 1940.

Who can solve this, and/or provide photos of Schnell's a/c at the time of his RK award? Would have been lots of photos taken at that time.

Regards,
