Re: info Kommando des Flughafen bereichs 9/VII, Montefiascone (Italy)

hello Mike,

The first website you could start with is: www.ww2.dk of Michael Holm. The info there reads:

Flughafen-Bereichs-Kommando 9/VII
Kommandeure:
Obstlt Rudolf Stark, 1941/42
Oberst Hans Schneider, 8.1.42 - 16.10.42
GenMaj Heinrich Rauch, 16.10.42 - 25.1.43
GenMaj Hans-Joachim von Arnim, 25.1.43 - 26.8.43
Oberst Fritz Prestien, 26.8.43 - 7.44

Formed 10.41 in Rome.
Disbanded 7.44.

Subordinated units:
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 13/III in Brindisi [11.41 - 5.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 6/IV in Practica di Mare [5.43 - 9.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 32/IV in Grottaglie & Monterotondo [11.41 - 9.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 35/IV in Orvieto [9.43 - 4.44]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 39/IV in Rome-Ciampino(?) [4.43 - 9.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 11/VI in Bari [11.42 - 5.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 14/VII in Viterbo [9.43 - 4.44]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 38/XI in Grosseto [11.41 - 7.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 52/XI in Napoli-Capodichino [11.42 - 8.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 10/XVII in Foggia [12.41 - 10.42]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E (v) 214/VII in Viterbo [4.44 - 6.44]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E (v) 218/VII in Monterotondo [4.44 - 6.44]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E (v) 219/VII in Orvieto [4.44 - 7.44]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E Piacenza in Piacenza [12.41 - 10.42]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur A 201/VII in Foggia [10.42 - 5.43]
Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur A 202/VII in Piacenza [10.42 - 7.43]
Service:
10.41 - 1.44 in Rome (Italy)
1.44 - 7.44 in Viterbo (Italy)

If you open the Luftwaffe Officers Lists on the same website and search the Pdf's for 9/VII, you probably might find some personalities/commanders of the Flughafenbereich 9/VII

Then of course, there are the volumes G. Matiello and perhaps some of the Italian air war researchers can help you too.

Best regards, Marcel

Re: info Kommando des Flughafen bereichs 9/VII, Montefiascone (Italy)

According to the KTB of the Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 32/IV, the commander of the Kommando des Flughafenbereichs 9/VII in March 1944 was the Oberstlt. Fritz-Herbert Dierich.

Does somebody knows more details about the Fliegerhorst-Kommandantur E 32/IV in the period September 1943-June 1944? I would like to know about which airports it was responsible (in Monterotondo there were no airports...) and its order of battle in that period. Unfortunately those "details" are not mentioned in the KTB.

Thanks in advance for any help

If this is "Rudi", didn't I just answer this question for you on Axis History Forum (AHF)?

https://forum.axishistory.com/viewto...?f=49&t=237080

If I had more information on E 32/IV, I don't think I would be inclined to share it with you because you do not say 'thank you' or even acknowledge receipt.

Re: info Kommando des Flughafen bereichs 9/VII, Montefiascone (Italy)

Never heard about any airfield in the Montefiascone area, a town situated along the hilly edges of the lake of Bolsena. There isn't a single field suitable for aviation purposes within a 10 Km range, except for planes like Fi.156 Stork's or so. Maybe just the Kommandantur had headquarters there? Actually they wouldn't have been the first to choose it as a command post: even the Pope in the past ruled from Montefiascone! Pretty the same as Castel Gandolfo.
There are evidences however of landing grounds near Monterotondo around 1943/1944.
