Sylvain Thouvenot is on a distinguished road
Fw190 of II./JG6 and II./JG26 on 08/25/44

Hello,

We found a FW 190-A8 engine during an archaeological digging, near La Fère-Aisne (05 Ost S/SG-3), in Northern France, last winter. A lot of pieces and the Jean Hallade’s books about aerials combats in the Aisne aera during WWII shows that this plane is probably one of the lot of FW 190 A8 of II./JG 6 and II./JG26 shot down on 25. August 1944. A dark day of three aerials combats for Luftwaffe :
- 9.30 am FW 109-A8 of I./JG 11 vs P-51 Mustang (354th FG ?)
05 Ost S/RG-9: [S. Saint-Quentin] (North of our crash)
- 01.00 pm FW 109-A8 of II./JG 6 vs P-38 Lightning of 367th FG
05 Ost S/SG: [Chauny-Tergnier]
- 07.00 pm : FW 109-A8 of II./JG 26 + Bf 109-G og III./JG 1 and II./JG 11 vs P-51 Mustang of 354th FG and P-47 Thunderbolt ( ?) of a unknown unit
05 Ost S/SG: [Chauny-Tergnier] + 05 Ost S/RG-8-9: [S. Saint-Quentin]

Unfortunatly, there’s no plate with Werk Nr. for identification. We found only a factory plate inside a piece of the engine (BMW 801 D ?) with this inscription :
Flügellagerung ARd.Zd (or 70)
9-12160.40-
Nabe 9-12022.22-
Werk-Nr. 166.14

Could you explain the meaning of FLÜGELLAGERUNG or give a translation of this term .

For the serials numbers :
9 – belongs to the engine,
About the series 12… I don’t have the BMW 801 Ersatzteilliste.

Can somebody help me to find which manufacture made this piece and when.I 'm also looking fore more details about the day "Quand le ciel de l'Aisne était en feu..."

Thank you.

Regards.

Sylvain Th.

It's not Kügellagerung by any chance is it? That would refer to the ball-bearings fitted.

Flügel- is to do with wings and my technical knowledge is too small to suggest how that word would apply to an engine.
