1. & 3./33 on 23 August 1942.

Hallo all,

Can anyone please help me with any details of operations by 1.(F) and 3.(F)/33 on 23 August 1942 ? Losses, sorties, areas covered, etc.

What reconnaissance duties were they normally carrying out in that timeframe ?

Thanks in advance.

Martin Gleeson.

Re: 1. & 3./33 on 23 August 1942.

Hello Martin,
I have the complete history of the 3/33 but as I'm away from my files at the moment I'll have to go from memory.

After returning from Russia, from May to November 1942, the 3/33 were based at Paris/Orly from where they flew reconnaissance sorties over the UK and North Sea until November when they moved; first to Bordeux and then Montpelier. Two August losses for the Staffel which spring to mind were a Ju 88A-5(F) and an 88D-1.

As for the 1/33, during the period May-November 42, IIRC, they were based at Toussus-le-Buc and Istres. As for losses, I can't tell you any for certain until I get back amongst my files. Once I do I'll let you know.

HTH

Regards

Dave

According to a contact from 3/33, they moved from Russia to Melsbroek to reform/rest in Jan 42 and from May to Nov 42 flew over the UK from Paris-Orly. Following the Allied invasion in North Africa, they then moved to Bordeaux and then Montpellier. They flew coastal recce missions at dawn and dusk from Portland to Dover and in and around Great Yarmouth (operating from Schiphol for the latter). Normally 3 missions AM and 3 missions PM subject to serviceability. I have nothing for 23 Aug 42

Hi.

The 1.(F)/33 did not record any aircraft lost on 23.08.1942, nor did the 3.(F)/33

Regards,
Andreas B
