The last reorganization of the Luftwaffe Fighter Force

Dear All,

Could someone please give me some guidance, or provide a reference, on the last reorganization of the Jagdwaffe? For example, on I believe 25 February 1945, III./JG 54 was renamed IV./JG 26, which effectively acknowledged the state of the affair. What was the order No. and its details regarding this and other late war designation changes?

Any assistance in the matter will be much appreciated.

Regards,
Sinisa

Re: The last reorganization of the Luftwaffe Fighter Force

Sinisa,
your seemingly simple question is not that easy to answer. Even after February 1945 there was a lot of reorganiation, especially disbanding of units. To start with, I have attached a list of change-orders for dayfighter-type units from February to April 1945. Source are the files of the GQM at Freiburg MA. Please remember, that this are only orders, whether and when they really came into being is still a matter of research. Not included are the nummerous "quiet" non-official actions near wars end and the ordered, but obviously not observed rebuilding of JG 27, 53 and 300 from Geschwader to Guppen.

Re: The last reorganization of the Luftwaffe Fighter Force

Carl,

Many thanks for the attached, it is highly valued. And yes, I thought that the answer to my query might not be exactly straightforward.

Almost by chance, I found a copy of the Luftflotte 6 Order of Battle of 3 May 1945, which tabled what I believe was the final status of the Luftwaffe units (as far as that Lfl. was concerned, including herewith rebuilding of JG 27, 53 and 300 from Geschwader to Guppen.

The source is Jagdgeschwader 300 "Wilde Sau" - A Chronicle of a Fighter Geschwader in the Battle for Germany, Volume Two , June 1943– September 1944, Appendices, page 331.

I will take my time to study the document attached to your post. Again, your response to my query is much appreciated.

Regards,
Sinisa

Jagdgruppe 300 was 'officially' established through the amalgamation of II. and III./JG 300 in April 1945 and is mentioned in the Luftflotte 6 ORB dated 03 May 1945 as above. Probably only 'existed' on paper.

see personal accounts here "..we were no longer Jagdgeschwader 300 "

Re: The last reorganization of the Luftwaffe Fighter Force

As Carl already stated, orders might be executed or not and sometimes unit were disbanded much later or not at all.
