profile of "Glamourous Glenn II"

hello,

I am looking for a color profile of the P51B "Glamourous Glenn II" that Chuck Yeager was flying when he was shot down in March 1944 near Bordeaux.

PRECISION: I don't need the Silver P51D "Glamourous Glenn III" with red and yellow checkers on the nose, but the "GG II", which was be olive drab, I guess.

If somebody could provide me a link, I would be grateful for that.

GC

Re: profile of "Glamourous Glenn II"

Hi,

i think you mean

serial 43-6763 P-51B B6-Y Yeager Maj. Charles E "Chuck" Glamourus Glen Misspelling as per a/c. Lost in this a/c 5 March 44 - Evaded. a/c named after wife MACR 2788

instead of

serial 44-13897 P-51D 363 B6-Y Yeager Maj. Charles E "Chuck" Glamorous Glen II (L & R) Lost 18 Oct 44 - Lt. Horace M Roycraft KIA

Glamorous Glen II was already a D-mustang, as well as G. Glen III.

Even Glamorous Glen II still was painted overall OD with white stripes on wings, so it seems most likely Glamorous Glen was OD too. Some B-models in 357th FG however were painted upper half OD and lower half (fuselage) NMF alu.

Best wishes

Re: profile of "Glamourous Glenn II"

you are right, and thanks for the details and precisions I ignored.

I am actually looking for the P51 that was shot down on March 5, 1944,

(the reason why is that I found some parts of this very aircraft on the crash site, and I would like to see what this aircraft looked like).

Thanks again

GC

Here it is:

P-51B Glamourus Glen

The yellow/red checkered nose was introduced first end of march 1944, so the nose was still painted white on 5th of march.

Re: profile of "Glamourous Glenn II"

I come back on Chuck´s P51B profile:

did the "4" of the serial number (the first number) appear on the fin of the aircraft or not ?

Thanks

Gilles

Re: profile of "Glamourous Glenn II"

No it did not, so the model is wrong, and neither did it have the aerial wire from the fin so the profile is also wrong.
