One for our American friends!

Hi guys

Apparently an American journalist named 'Dave Marlow' worked for Harper's magazine, and was allegedly in Murmansk in 1942.

Apparently he wrote an article on his experiences, allegedly for Harper's.

I've not been able to find the article. Can anyone help, please?

Cheers
Brian

Re: One for our American friends!

The Harper's magazine has a website where you can search past issues for free (but then have to pay to read the articles).

These is a tag system, and "Murmansk" is one of the available tages. There is only one article, in the August 1943 issue, written by Arthur Henry Timmins.
See: http://harpers.org/blog/tag/murmansk/?yrf=&yrt=

And in one book, the above article is said as having been written by Dave Marlow:
"The English sailor and journalist Dave Marlow described how the convoys were unloaded, even during raids, in an August 1943 article in Harper's Magazine: "Twenty-four hours a day they hauled and pulled, working twelve-hour shifts with no time off, working in a ...."

Re: One for our American friends!

Many thanks for the correction, Laurent

Now I ask our American friends - has anyone a copy of the article, or perhaps access to August 1943 issue via a library etc?

I would very much appreciate a copy of Timmins' article.

I hope someone can oblige.

Cheers
Brian

Brian,

Go here and scroll down to "Murmansk, 1943." There is a PDF of the article.

Re: One for our American friends!

Thanks Ed

However I can't open it - looks as though one has to subscribe ($45)!

Are you able to open it - and perhaps scan it for me?

Cheers
