Leutnant Günther KIA July 24th, 1941 - Unit?

Hello!

A Finnish source mentions that leutnant Günther got bullet hit to his head while on mission over Gulf of Finland. The deadly fire had been shot from ships. The aircraft was a Ju 88 which landed (diverted?) at Helsinki/Malmi, Finland. Günther was said to have been commander of the plane if that matters something. Time of the incident was around 3 o'clock AM Finnish time and date July 24th, 1941. Günther was buried at Helsinki two days later (July 26th).

Above is all I know about the man and the incident. I could not find the loss at the AHS Norway database. Mainly I am interested what was leutnant Günther's unit. Most likely KGr 806 or KG 77. All additional info welcomed.

Thanks in advance,
Kari

Hi Kari

Do you know the identity, or even nationality, of the ship/s that opened fire on his aircraft?

Cheers

Hi.

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=145187

Seems to be some discussion on first vs family name, will have to check further sources

Regards,

Hello!

Gentlemen, thank you for information and interest. Below is translation of the original piece of text. I tried to upload a pdf with faximile picture without success.

24.7.
03.15 Ju-88 made an attack against enemy tanker (ship) at Gulf of Finland. The plane commander got bullet into his head from enemy defensive fire and was dead when the plane arrived at the field (Luutn. Gynther).

The source seems to be some kind semi-formal war diary of Malmi airfield activity and kept by air traffic controller(s?). I got excerpts from a friend and unfortunately don't know any archival data for it, if any.
