Hans Stauffert - II/JG3 is on a distinguished road
Looking for my comrades of II/JG3 (ed. Hans has passed away, RH)

Hello, my name is Hans Stauffert and I live in Ontario, Canada. I am 84 years old and a former II/JG3 pilot from 1942 to March 3 1944 when I was shot down. Read account in Jochen Prien & Gerhard Stemmer's book "Jagdgeschwader 3 "Udet" in World War II (english edition)" on page 205 and see unnamed photo of me on page 262 (top). When my son did some research about this book for Father's Day, 2 years ago, he heard through others that there were still some comrades alive and I would like to see if I can find them. Particularly, Hptm. Heinrich Sannemann and Lt. Gerd. Schaedle. I would appreciate it if anyone could put me in touch with these or others of my group. I am planning a trip to Germany soon and would love to connect again if possible.

Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Hans Stauffert.

Re: Looking for my comrades of II/JG3

Dear Mr Stauffert,

Wellcome on this board - and I am glad you are still with us today. Have been looking for you a long time, as I have been studying the experiences of II./JG 3 for over 25 years.

Just a few ex pilots of 6./JG 3 are still alive - Franz Cech, Gerd Thyben - alas Gerd Schaedle died in 1980.

I wrote you a pm - hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes,
Rob van den Nieuwendijk

Re: Looking for my comrades of II/JG3 (ed. Hans has passed away, RH)

I've just received an E-mail from Hans Stauffert's son Kurt, that Mr. Stauffert has passed away on December 20.

I'm sorry to have missed the original post by Hans, it is not often that we get the honor of a visit by a genuine veteran of WW2. Let us hope his visit brought him some looked for answers.
