Ofw Kless II/JG54 1940.

Good evening, i wonder if anybody can help with any further information on this chap.
I have a photograph of Ofw Kless of II/JG54 seated in the cockpit of Bf109E " Black 4+
presumedly of the 5/JG54 ,during 1940.

Does anybody know Kless's first name, also the period when he served with JG54, and particularly his fate if known.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Steve.

Steve,

I have the same photo that you have in the EoE Photo DB via the Prien Collection. The pilot sitting in the cockpit is identified as Fw Walter Knehs. The aircraft he is sitting in was "Black 4" of 2./JG76, and I've got it dated as circa 03.40 during the Phoney War period. I believe that we've used this as one of our EoE Project color profiles representing that unit.

Regards,

Larry Hickey

Re: Ofw Kless II/JG54 1940.

Good morning Larry and Matti.
Larry thank you for sharing details from the EOE Project, the 2/JG76 link was one option i looked at, but because i was looking for Kless obviously i couldn't find anything.
I would tend to agree with the time frame looking at the early 1940 camouflage style.

Matti, many thanks for providing the loss details for this airman, it would appear that in 3 years Knehs didnt make huge strides with regards promotion and still a Fw at the time of his loss.

Kindest regs,
Steve.
