Meimberg and Naumann

Hi guys

I am wondering if anyone here could help me with two questions that I have regarding incidents in which the above two aces were shot down and wounded. The first concerns the circumstances in which Oberleutnant Julius Meimberg (53 victories, RK) of 6./JG 53 was shot down and suffered severe burns after claiming a USAAF B-17 four-engined bomber as his 32nd victory on 1 February 1943. Does the loss list information for this event exist? The second concerns the loss list information for when Hauptmann Johannes Naumann (34 victories, RK), Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 26, was shot down and injured by Flak south of Caen. Does the subtype, tactical code and werknummer of his aircraft exist? Many thanks.

Horrido!

Leo

Bf109G-4/trop, 16025, MEIMBERG, Oblt. Julius, 11./JG 53, DF+FY, 01-Feb-43, Stkp., WIA due to Luftkampf with B-17., FSA., Lfl.2/Tunisien, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #10)-Vol.17; Prien, JG 53, II, p.805, bei Pont du Fahs

You did not give a date, but presumably, you meant this one:

Fw 190A-8, 730425, NAUMANN, Hptm. Johannes, Stab II./JG 26, schwarze, 30 + -, 23-Jun-44, Gr.Kdr., Injured in FSA due to British Flak., Caldwell, JG 26 War Diary, II, p.292; Obermaier p172, süd südwestlich Caen

Hello John

Many thanks for your response to my questions. You are correct in that the incident that I was interested in regarding Naumann occurred on 22 June 1944. With my infinite wisdom I forgot to include the date... I hope that all is well with you and once again many thanks.

Horrido!

Leo
