Lt. Hiawatha Mohawk, 325. FG

Hi everyone,

I have 325. FG books from Aero Publishers and Squadron Signal and I would like to find out more about Lt. Hiawatha Mohawk, 319. SQ.

His P-51 was 43-24818 "79" "Blond Squaw".

Are there more photos of his Mustang? Does exist his personal photograph? (except of one in Squadron book)

I am beginner in US personnel files. If I know his personal Air Force ID, can I somehow obtain some data about him?

Is he still alive?

Looks like he shot down a JGr. 200 fighter on June 15, 1944 over southern France. One Checkertail Clan P-51 was shot down by this unit in return. It was one of first 325. FG´s P-51 missions, but definitely a bloodiest one while flying this type. The 325. FG lost 7 a/c due to all kind of reasons. Highest loss rate per mission in case of this unit on P-51s.

thanks for your feedback

cheers

He has passed away,

I believe the serial # should be 43-24814.

Mike,

thanks for link.
Thanks also for warning about serial number. Frank Olynyk´s MTO book and 325 FG states the serial number 43-24814, which is correct.
Aero Publishers book states 43-24818 (which confused me last night), but this is a 52. FG a/c

regards

Lt. Mohawk´s crew chief was Ed Doss. Is there possibility to get in touch with him?

As of the Spring of 2008, Ed Doss was still alive according to our 2008 roster.

I have been trying to reach Ed Doss on the telephone; however, no one has answered my calls. I will continue and check with our Reunion organization to see if anyone has further information.
