Oberleutnant Dieter Meister

Hi Peglar

I too would be interested in this photograph as well if it would not be too much of a bother for you. I should add that Goss has stated that he was killed while flying Fw 190 A-8 (W.Nr. 738 325). Many thanks.

Horrido!

Re: Oberleutnant Dieter Meister

This is a very old thread, but I do have two questions about it:

1- Do we happen to know the codes of Fw 190 A-8 of werknummer 738 233?

2- Which P-38 unit or pilot (possibly 9th AF) claimed him?

I have been looking at possible matches, but the 21-11-44 ETO claims only do register claims submitted by: 77th FS, 82nd FS, 335, 336, 364, 369, 370, 374, 383, 384, 385, 389, 487 and 505th Fighter Squadrons.

As far as I have researched, all were either flying P-51Mustangs or P-47 Thunderbolts...

ANY idea which unit was still flying P-38 outfits by 21 November 1944????

Hello Adriano

Unfortunately, I doubt that we will ever know the tactical code of the fighter he was flying on his final mission. It is very interesting that you have not been able to uncover any claims by P-38 twin-engined fighter that day... perhaps the German records are in error? It would be intriguing to discover which unit JG 2 was engaged with on that occasion.

Horrido!

Re: Oberleutnant Dieter Meister

Dear Tereza (thank you, but I already knew the information from De Zeng and other's excellent site)

LEO, yes...do need to check my 2nd TAF books (not at hand now) to see if there were some Intruding Mossies around Frankfurt that day...

This is what I matched so far...we do have two interesting SINGLE claims by airmen from 20th FG and 361st FG....maybe FRANK OLINYK can help us onto the unknown claims???

Does anyone do have the "JG 2 Richtofen" books by Eric Monbeek? Were there further losses recorded by JG 2 onto the 21st November 1944, or was Oblt Dieter Meister the single loss???

Re: Oberleutnant Dieter Meister

Hello Adriano,

according to JFV Vol. 13/II page 413 this Fw 190 of the III./JG 2 was probably shot down by a F-6 of the 10th PRG (9th Air Force).

Regards
Leo
