Ju 88 loss on 18 October 1943
According to the book "Luftkrieg im Weserbergland. Eine Chronologie der Ereignisse", by Detlef Creydt, a Nachtjagd Ju 88 crashed at Eberholzen, Germany, during the night of 18-19 October 1943, after the three crew members had successfully bailed out.
I can't find this loss in both Balss books. Maybe someone having acces to German loss lists can find something in them ? Another possibility is that the date is wrong: Balss had a Ju 88 loss ten days before (8/9 October rather than 18/19): the Ju 88 C-6 WNr 750478 R4+MP of 6./NJG 2 crashed in Hannover (area?), probably after an air battle. The pilot, Lt Ernst Gross, and one crew, Uffz Julius Burow, were KIA, the third crew, Uffz Fritz Deesen, is MIA (loss listed in book 1, full names and WNr completed in book 2). Eberholzen is 30 km south of Hannover, so maybe both cases are one and the same. If someone has access to the NVM of Ju 88 WNr 750478, I will be interested to know more details. Thanks in advance, best regards |
