Hello,
did any US or RAF Nightfighter claimed an Ju 52 or Ju 34 on that day?
Location is the small village Elend at the Harz-Mountains.
Thanks!

No claims for either type by any Eighth, Ninth or First Tactical Air Forces fighter groups or squadrons on this date.

That site says it happened on the 17th (not 18th)

As per Shores/Thomas 2 TAF claimed a Ju 252 at 14.00H at a place named Vechlin on the 17th.
Google maps can't locate the place so probably misspelled,

Frank Olynyk does not list any Ju 52 or W 34 claims for neither 8th nor 9th AF

Cheers

This was just after the supply flights to the Ruhr pocket ended (Army Group B communications ceased on the 17th) but the Luftwaffe was looking at whether it could supply 11th Army in the Harz Mountains. Whether any such flights were attempted, I don't know.

Hi Stig,

the place you ask for is Rechlin. This was an airfield -> the "Erprobungsstelle der Luftwaffe", means "Testing Site of the Luftwaffe". The shooter was Flight Lieutenant Walmsley in a Spitfire of the 130. Sqn.

All the best

Fred

Dear Friends,

perhaps the crash you search for is: 3./TG 1 Jukers Ju 52/3m - Transport-Flight from Ludwigslust to Quedlinburg on Thursday, April 19. This Ju 52 was shot down by US-AA

Quedlinburg is very near to the hamlet Elend/Oberharz am Brocken in Sachsen-Anhalt.

Ha, ha Fred
There are days when the good old head decides it has better to stay under my left arm.....
Now why didn't I think of that?
Perhaps because you have not yet reached that month in your excellent publication range?
Hint - hint - hint
