22 March 1941 over Malta

Hi

On the 22 MArch 7./JG 26 Claim 7 Kills over Malta:

Time/Type/Pilot/Kills No

16:24 Hurricane Oblt. Klaus Mietusch 4
16:25 Hurricane Uffz. Karl-Heinz Ehlen 1
16:26 Hurricane Oblt. Klaus Mietusch 5
16:27 Hurricane Uffz. Karl-Heinz Ehlen 2
16:30 Hurricane Uffz. Karl-Heinz Ehlen 3
16:30 Hurricane Ofw. Karl Kühdorf 2
16:31 Hurricane Uffz. Heinz-Norbert Kestler 2

According D. Caldwells both books (Jg 26 Top Guns of the Luftwaffe, and JG 26 War Diary vol. I) eight Hurricanes from 261 Squadron had been sent up against ten Ju 88s and their escort 12 Bf-109E-7. Five British pilots were killed.

I am looking for more information from the RAF side, like names of British KIA pilots, number of shot down planes (not always number of KIA pilot = number of shot down planes), etc.

Re: 22 March 1941 over Malta

F/O „Terry“ Foxton was an ex PR pilot. He arrived in Malta on 6th September 1940 with one of the first Marylands. Later he volunteered to fighters.

Michal

Re: 22 March 1941 over Malta

I have one more problem. This time about second battle on 1st may 1941.

In the morning mission 7./JG 26 claim 3 kills :

07:54 Hurricane Lt. Hans Johannsen 3
07:53 Hurricane Oblt. Joachim Müncheberg 39
07:55 Hurricane Oblt. Joachim Müncheberg 40

In fact P/O R. A. Innes and Sgt B. C. Walmsley was shoting down and WIA.

In scecond mission 7./JG 26 claim another 3 kills :

17:14 Hurricane Lt. Hans Johannsen 4
17:15 Hurricane Oblt. Joachim Müncheberg 41
17:20 Hurricane Obfw. Karl Kühdorf ( reject)

Anyone have info about RAF losses in afternoon battle ?
I have D. Caldwell both book, and I know about problem with Hurricanes losses for 28 April - 1 may period. But Maybe on "Hurricanes over Malta" or "Malta: The Hurricane Years 1940-41" exist more informations.

According to "Hurricanes over Malta" 7/JG26 morning claims on 1 May does not related to any known operations by RAF.
