Attack on Kiel April 9/10th 1945

Hi,

Trying to determine where the Admiral Scheer was birthed in Kiel Harbour the night it was sunk by Lancaster's of No.1 and 3 Group.

Was it near the Deutsche Werks or the Howaldts Werks Aiming points D & E ? The Admiral Sheer was reported in the inner dockyard basin? not sure where this is located.

Any help appreciated.

Steve

Hi Steve

ADMIRAL SCHEER was berthed in the Ausrüstungsbecken (fitting out basin) of the Deutsche Werke shipyard in Kiel when she was sunk.

Actually, some parts of the ship are still there today. The most valuable scrap was salvaged from the wreck after the war but the remains were used to fill the basin together with debris from the city. Where the berth of the cruiser was is now a parking lot in the Marine Arsenal (naval armory): https://www.google.com/maps/place/54...0.163333?hl=en

Rainer,

Wonderful thank you. It looks like No.3 Group can claim the destruction of the Admiral Scheer.

Kind Regards

Steve
