Re: Osprey Fw 200 Combat Units

BTW,
Chris

I wonder, do you put a list of losses of KG 40 (combat, non-combat duties)?

Yes for I, III and IV Gruppe but that will be in the Classic book as so far it numbers 56 pages (and add to that the combat list which resulted in no casualties)

Re: Osprey Fw 200 Combat Units

Chris,

Have you ever wondered at the ratio of losses?

Can you give a proportion of the losses combat for non combat?

For example 60 to 40 or 30 to 70?

I am afraid that I have never looked at it this way and it would take some time especially when one takes into consideration the various % of damage. However, I can say that non-combat outnumbered combat

Re: Osprey Fw 200 Combat Units

Thanks,

This is interesting, because many people think, that combat losses are dominant in war. And sometimes is different, it is not so simple and easy.

Re: Osprey Fw 200 Combat Units

I seem to recal being told that in 1944 the Allies were losing an average of 24 aircraft a day in accidents. Understandable. As to Condors they were very prone to problems as you no doubt know

Re: Osprey Fw 200 Combat Units

The same problem you have in Soviet avaition, where non-combat losses were in 1944, if I am right remember, higher then combat ones (most of them low quality of production).

So this is important, but not often written and seen, problem.

Most people think about combat, comabt, combat, do not see such cases behind the frontline.

Re: Osprey Fw 200 Combat Units

For those that are interested, the book is now available. Classic book is now up to 53,000 words and I am only at April 1941
