Max Stotz
Dear All,
I have two questions. First, I've been told that Max Stotz didn't make any claims between February 21 and May 21, 1943. Do you happen to know why? Was he ill or wounded? Second, was he married or not? Thank you in advance. :-) |

Re: Max Stotz
Good afternoon Teresa,
I'm interested in Stotz, too. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=43335 My theory is that the scoring gap is due to Bf109-Fw190 conversion training. Have a nice weekend, Michael |

Re: Max Stotz
Dear Michael,
Thank you very much for your answer. Well, you may be right. As to my second question, do you happen to know whether he was married? |

Re: Max Stotz
Hello Teresa Maria,
somehow, info about Stotz is scarce. Although he is among the Top 20 of Bf109 aces, the best Bf109 book I know https://www.amazon.de/Die-ber%C3%BCh...words=musciano doesn't feature a short biography of Stotz. How come, you're interested in him ? Are you one of the ultrarare female airwar enthusiasts ? Cheers, Michael |

Re: Max Stotz
Dear Michael,
I'm interested in fighter pilots and they do fascinate me, but I wouldn't say I'm an air war enthusiast, as I'm not an enthusiast of war at all. War is evil, full stop. If you look for my posts on TOCH, I usually ask about pilots' biographies, for example, whether they were married, I also ask for photos of them, etc. |

Re: Max Stotz
Good evening Teresa Maria,
hmm, I never though about which ace might be more handsome than the others. But I remember having read, I think it was there: https://www.amazon.de/Bände-Flugzeug...chterm%C3%BCnz that Steinhoff was considered the most beautiful Luftwaffe pilot. Ironically, his face was disfigured in a 1945 crash. Whom do you pronounce the most beautiful ace a) of the Luftwaffe b) of any Air Force in all wars ? Have a pleasant evening, Michael |

Re: Max Stotz
Dear Michael,
My answer to your question is: a) Friedrich Rupp b) Friedrich Rupp!!! He wasn't among the most famous aces, but I do think he was extremely handsome. |

Re: Max Stotz
Well, as a woman I find many aces handsome. Indeed, it's a matter of taste: Johannes Steinhoff was handsome, but of the pilots regarded as the most handsome aces, for example, Hans-Joachim Marseille was more handsome than Steinhoff.

Re: Max Stotz
Good afternoon Teresa Maria,
thanks for your assessment. Stotz was the second-ranking Austrian ace after Nowotny. Johannes indicates a score of 182 whereas a figure of 189 can often befound in older books. I have not found the reason for that difference yet. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ight=max+stotz Are you an Austrian, too ? (Your name implies that.) Have a nice weekend, Michael |
