Need more info about JG7 Pilots
Hello
According J.Foreman and S.E.Harvey,there would have been a certain Lt.Herbert Spangenberg (37 "abschuss"...whaou!!)....MIA on 04/04/1945 (other source). A certain Lt.Willy Rowe (4 "abschuss" with JG7....Nothing in the count of victories of JG7!). Who are these "famous" unknows?? According "Luftwaffe Officers Career",Lt Bruno Mischkot (ex JG54 and JG26) credited with +2 "abschuss" or 76 ! a big difference!! MIA on 04/45...but still? Someone knows more? Best Regards Michel |

Re: Need more info about JG7 Pilots
ww2.dk lists him as promoted to Lt 1/1/44, 26/5/44 in JG 101 and later in Erprobungskommando 262.

Re: Need more info about JG7 Pilots
Gentlemen,
I never heard of a Herbert Spangenberg and a Willy Rowe in JG7 either. I read a book about JG7 and neither these two pilots were mentioned. Edward L. Hsiao |

Re: Need more info about JG7 Pilots
Lt.Willy Röwe is listed as a JG-7 pilot in the book "Jagdgeschwader 7: Die Chronik eines Me262 Geschwader". He is listed with a birth date of 1914, came from Transports, and was listed with 4 victories. Bear in mind these are victories attained before coming to JG-7.
Spangenberg is listed with little information except for a death date of 4/45. In the LW Officer listing there is the following: SPANGENBERG, Herbert. (DOB: 20.01.23). 01.01.44 promo to Lt./A1. 26.05.44 Lt., JG 101, later Erprobungskommando 262. |

Re: Need more info about JG7 Pilots
Lt. Spangenberg at first was with EKdo 262. On 6th November 44, when with Kommando Nowotny, he made a forced landing at Lemwerder with WNr. 110 389, "White 2" (50% damage) and was injured. He stayed with JG7 until the end of the war and survived. This is true, because I had contact with him some 15 years ago.

Re: Need more info about JG7 Pilots
Hi Michel
Mischkot is reputed to have made five claims with the Me262. Previous to this he made two claims with JG 54:- 2nd April 1944 1./JG 54 Il-2 NE of Kunda at 1533 hrs 26th May 1944 3./JG 54 La-5 Gulf of Finland North of Hungerburg at 1339 hrs He flew over sixty combat sorties, maximum claims can be no more than seven. With Spangenburg and Rowe, no claims at all. Trouble is that data like number of sorties e.t.c get out of sequence, and then believed to be true. Kind Regards Johannes |
