Bf 110 W.Nr. 6405, 14 october 1943

Hi,
On 14th october 1943, Uffz Heinz Knüttel was wounded in air combat. He was a Bordfunker of III./ZG 26 Bf 110G-2 W.Nr 6405. I'm looking for degree of damage of that plane. Also any other informations about ZG 26 losses will be welcome.

Regards,
Szymek

Hi Szymek

Its mentioned in the Lossreg. 1939-1945 in the Netherlands (Studie groep Luchtoorlog 1939-1945) on 1943-12-22

So I think the damage was small on your date.

regards

Re: Bf 110 W.Nr. 6405, 14 october 1943

Hi

The aircraft isnt' listed as damaged, so the damage to the aircraft would be under 10%

Andreas B

Re: Bf 110 W.Nr. 6405, 14 october 1943

Thank you very much.

Andreas or Maathuis,
Could you check for me also ZG 1 losses for 14 october 1943 or - if it's not a problem - for period september - december 1943 ?

I know that in action against 2nd Schweinfurt raid three Bf 110 were lost. I found two of them, 4./NJG 6 Bf 110 G-4 W.Nr. 720248 and 6./NJG 1 Bf 110 G-4 W.Nr. 6347. So, my presumption that W.Nr 6405 is third loss is false. Still looking for the last one, perhaps ZG 1 plane.

Szymek

Re: Bf 110 W.Nr. 6405, 14 october 1943

Andreas,

On 13th october 1943 I/ZG 1 was renamed as I/ZG 26. According to www.ww2.dk webpage, in october 1943 I/ZG 26 write off 5 Bf 110 due to enemy actions. If some of them were lost before 13th october could be described as I/ZG 1 planes. On Tony Woods webpage, I/ZG 1s crews claims for 14 october are still described as 1., 2. 3,/ZG 1, not 1.;2.; 3/ZG 26, so designation I/ZG 1 could by used for some time longer that 13th october.

II/ZG 1, which stay with this designation until July 1944, according to www.ww2.dk in october 1943 suffered a loss of 3 Bf 110 to the enemy, and there was no combat losses for II/ZG 1 on november and december 1943.

I'm specially interested in 14th october 1943 because I planned writing an "both side view" article about 2nd Schweinfurt Raid.

Regards,
Szymek
