96th BG / 390th BG 10 SEPT 44
Hi everyone,
Looking into the identity of a B-17 downed south of Nussbaum, Germany on 10 Sept 44. There were 7 heavies listed as losses that day, one of which was a B-25 (446th BG). Of the remaining six, I have been able to get some information on Forts from the 381st, 398th and 401 BGs. One loosely fits the criteria (south, but in the vicinity of Nussbaum). The other three may or may not be better candidates, but I am unable to get any information on them. One is Fort from the 96th BG, the two from the 390th BG. Can someone provide some information? A MACR #, a crew name, or aircraft serial/code? If there is an online db with this info, would you please forward the link? The sites for those two bomb groups do not have that type of data. Thank you!

Re: 96th BG / 390th BG 10 SEPT 44
Hi Cees,
Thanks for your response. I realized the typo (5 vs 4) after I posted. Really just trying to identify a Fort that went down somewhere south of Nussbaum on 10 September. There were about 6 candidates; still trying to match up the documentation with the report of an eyewitness. My thanks again,

Re: 96th BG / 390th BG 10 SEPT 44
Tim,
44-6085 of 381.BG, 533.BS came down around 11.15 near Neibsheim, NNW of Bretten near Pforzheim. There is a Nussbaum SSW of Bretten, distance around 8 km. 43-37603 of 96.BG came down around the same time 1 km NE of Laubenthal near Weißenburg/Bavaria. 42-97577 and 42-31134 of 390.BG were shot down over the city of Nürnberg and crashed in Nürnberg-Schweinau respectively in the Schweinauer Str. in Nürnberg-Sankt Leonhard. Hope this helps, Heuser |
