Alain57:
Lt. Garth was lost in 41-6397, LM-G. This information can be found on the Daily Mission Schedules of the 62nd FS that are located at the National Archives 2 in College Park, MD.MACRs did not come into consistent use in the 8th FC until July 1943. It was not until nearly the end of July that the Germans began using their J-Report numbering system. Hope that this helps. Ted51

Re: Lt Garth Winston 0-659291 56FG/42FS

Hello Alain57,

on 15 May 1943 a test flight of the P-47 C-5-RE 41-6397 (LM-S, 62nd FS) ended with a belly landing at Hellesdon Golf Course, Hertfordshire, Norfolk. The pilot 2nd Lt Peterson escaped with only minor cuts and bruises. Photos in www.56thfightergroup.co.uk/crashreport.htm.
A loss of this plane on 29 April 1943 is incredibly.

Regards
Leo
