Bf109K-4 at bad Aibling

Greetings,

I am researching the aircraft found at Bad Aibling in May, 1945. Everyone has seen the often published shot of the Bf109K-4 with a numeral “81” on its left rudder. As part of my research, I am trying to confirm several details of this aircraft:

First, there is a possibility that this K-4 was fitted with a replacement fin from another plane. Does anyone have an additional view of this aircraft? If so, are there any traces of a Werknummer on the upper part of its fin?

Second, I believe its actual WNr. was 33XX81. Can anyone confirm the first digit of the factory-applied last-three of its WNr. on its rear fuselage?
Any assistance rendered will be greatly appreciated.

Steve Sheflin

Bf 109K-4 bad Aibling (better scan)

Gentelmen,

While I was trying (in vain) to find on "google life" the others photos taken at the same time by the life reporter, I found this better scan of the photo.

On the right behind the Fw 190 F (5 weiss) 781420, we can see an other Me 19 K4 13 weiss (13+-)

I enclose also the scan an other photo from the Fw 190 F (this photo comes from the "signal corps" files).

I would be pleased if a member of this forum could tell us the original references of the life photo.

Regards
Rémi

Hello,

Good stuff!
By the way, what is the identity of the Me262, White 7, in background?
Thank you Rémi.

A+, Franck.

Thanks Rémi for your attachments. Sorry I can't help you for the original "Life" reference. I never noticed until your post the Bf 109 K-4 "Weisse 13".

Does anybody have the AIC report for Bad Aibling? That would be great;-)))

Cheers
Marc

Me 262 A-1a, white 7 has been discussed by David E. Brown at LEMB: http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...469#entry89402

"In the ninth photo from the top - panoramic view - can be seen the tail of an Me262 with the last three digits of its Werknummer visible: "704". The position and style of the Werknummer is common to 111000-series aircraft, thus its full WNr. was 111704. The fifteenth image is poorly reproduced, but study of the original reveals that its code number was "White 7" painted on the fuselage behind the cockpit. On the April 26, 1944 Me262 Werknummer list for Munchen-Riem ("JV44 List"), there is an entry for "111074" under the JV44 heading. There is no such number for this series and I believe that this must have been a transcription error. In all probability it should be 111704. If correct, then White 7, WNr.111704 is a JV44 aircraft that has yet to have been positively identified.
Cheers,
David"

Re: Bf109K-4 at bad Aibling

Franck,

The aircraft's white '7' can bee seen in the view above, and from an 8x10 print of Remi's second image (above) the last three digits of its werknummer are clearly visible.

Adding to my earlier comments on 'we.7" of JV 44, a photograph of the aircraft viewed from the front shows racks for R4Ms under the wings.

Cheers,

David
