Unusual Me 262

Hello! I was wondering if anyone might have any information or thoughts about this delightful Me 262. Notice the dark, rectangular stencil below the windscreen on the port side. This stencil was apparently a marker of reconnaissance Me 262s (Me 262 A-1a/U3). But this particular Me 262 is the standard fighter version, armed not with cameras but with the 4 cannons!

Any thoughts about its operational history and/or its paint scheme?

Please let me know what you think!

Regards,

Jon

That "rectangular stencil" is the access to the hydraulic pressure check panel. Its cover missing.

Thanks for your reply, Robert! I agree with you about that missing panel. The stencil I was referring to is actually only visible in the third photo. You have to click on the link to see it. Here's a gorgeous photo of an Me 262 A-1a/U3. Here you can have a nice view of the stencil in question.

Regards,

Jon
