70 year desert mystery may be soon solved......

I've just been reading about a Flight Sergeant Denis Copping of 260 Squadron, based in North Africa in 1942, who while ferrying a Kittyhawk for repairs strayed off course and was never seen again. That is until early this year.
It seems a Polish oil worker came across the well preserved Kittyhawk and sometime later remains were found 5 miles from the aircraft. These have yet to be identified, but its likely to be those of the pilot.
It seems a close living relative in Kinsale Co. Cork may provide DNA to help solve the mystery.
The British MOD is trying to have the aircraft removed to the RAF museum at Hendon.
It is thought Flt. Sgt. Copping initially used his parachute for shelter, before setting off in search of help, not realising he was 200 miles ftom the nearest habitation.
Having read this in "The Cork News" I was reminded of "The Lady Be Good" story, which is so like this latest sad discovery in the depths of the North African desert........

Lets not start a new thread on this subject, please see the old thread:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...hlight=copping

This was big news at the start of the year, use Google and the forum archives to see if it was mentioned previously.
