15th August 1940 Luftwaffe attack on Driffield
Dear all,
On August 15th 1940 Ju88's from KG30 attacked the North East of England and were met by Blenheim's of 219 Squadron over Flamborough Head. I believe that their main target was Driffield. Can anyone provide a copy of any German documents relating to this attack? 219 squadron were gathered for photographs at Catterick when they were scrambled to intercept the raid. I have some information from the RAF side but wanted to try and confirm the numbers and types of the German involvement. One veteran told me that it was Ju88's only but another has said that he remembers seeing He111's as well. Both were involved on the day. Kind regards Gerry |

Re: 15th August 1940 Luftwaffe attack on Driffield
KG 30 only-KG 26 was earlier further north. There is a War Reporter report of the attack and I have all the losses but never seen a pre-attack mission brief or post attack report. 219 Sqn chased the He 111s back not the Ju 88s from my memory

Re: 15th August 1940 Luftwaffe attack on Driffield
Gerry: I have a copy in German and somewhere a translation. However, I would say that it is way over optimistic of what they thought they had achieved and is written in a way to appeal to civilians. If still interested, say. I also have copies of the photos taken of 219 that day.....

This might help a bit, but I doubt that you will find any official report from KG 30.

Gerry: I have a translation if you want it but in all honesty, it is typical propaganda not an accurate report
