Bf109G-6/U2 CFE Report No.3?

Evening gents,

Has anybody got a copy, has access to, or can point me in the right direction to view CFE Report No.3? The report in question covers comparative tactical trials between Bf109G-6/U2 (W.Nr.412951), Mustang III and Spitfire IX and XIV.

Also, while I'm here, a second Bf109G-6 (W.Nr.163240, "Yellow 8" of JG301) made an emergency landing near Manston on 21st July 1944. This was on the same night as this Bf109 above - but can anybody point me towards any images, reports etc pertaining to this aircraft?

Thanks in advance,

Peter D Evans

Peter,

of both incidents A.D.I.(K) Reports exist, No. 371/1944 and No. 374/1944. Both have only very limited info on the a/c.

cheers,

JM

Re: Bf109G-6/U2 CFE Report No.3?

Thanks for the info John...

I have an Air Intelligence 2 (g) Inspection of Crashed or Captured Enemy Aircraft report for W.Nr.412951 which I think I downloaded from Tony Wood's site.. but their is no report number on the document. However it does go on to mention towards the end - "Air 40/2418 Report A.D.I. (k) No. 371/1944 Landing of two Me 109Gs in error at Manston".

Do you have access to the two A.D.I(K) reports you mention and if so, would you be able to email me copies?

What I am trying to determine is when W.Nr.412951 was tested by the RAE if the two MG 151/20 cannons in under-wing gondolas were left in place or removed. Eric Brown test flew this particular aircraft, as described in his book "Wings of the Luftwaffe", but he makes no mention is made if it were flown in a clean configuration. Also all contemporary images of this aircraft show the gondulas in place...

Thanks again for your interest,

Thanks to Neil Stirling, I've been able to get my hands on a copy the CFE Report No.3! Still no mention as to whether this Bf109G was flown with its gondolas or clean... does anybody know?

Also, if anybody can supply the A.D.I.(K) Reports

No. 371/1944
and
No. 374/1944

...that would be great!

cheers

Peter, I have both ADI(K)'s, but they don't tell much. Just send me private message with your address and I will send you paper copies.

John.

Re: Bf109G-6/U2 CFE Report No.3?

hello
I have no direct info, but both the photos and the given max speed (appr. 620 km/h) indicates that the Bf109G was flown with its underwing gondolas.

Re: Bf109G-6/U2 CFE Report No.3?

That's a good point Juha... all the images I've seen of this Bf109 show it with the gondolas fitted. I can see some logic of it being tested with the gondolas as there were two other G-series Bf109's with the RAF at this time... Maybe they were to be removed later, but the crash of this Bf109 on 23rd Nov'44 possibly put paid to that...

cheers
