Dornier DO 217 U5+EP

Hello,

I'm researching the crash of the Dornier Do217 E4 U5+EP which crashed at Sauchay in France on 19 August 1942.

Yesterday I received a testimony from a gentleman who was almost 6 years old on the day of the crash.
He told me that the plane crashed at 10.50 am, which does not correspond to the time found in the writings on the Internet.

I could see a small aluminium plate riveted to a piece of bakelite.
I don't know if it is possible to attach a photo?

It's noted the following information to what I can see and decoded:
DORNIER-WERKE G.m.b.H
MUNCHEN
B??muster : DO 217 E2
Rustort : nothing
??? Sach-Nr. : ?-??1 166-12
Werk Nr. : nothing
DoS 16659.1

So this is a part of a Dornier DO 217 E2. I think that some parts of the E25 were mounted on E4 ?

Thank you in advance for your help and your answers.
François

Some E-4s were built as E-2s and upgraded to E-4 standard

I am not sure about your doubts concerning circumstances of the loss.
Otherwise it is pretty normal during production that stocks of interchangeable parts are being used up. The same applies to spare parts.
