New Fw190D-13 picture

Hello,

on modelforum.cz I saw a post with a new picture of the Fw190D-13 featured in Roger Gaemperle's "Vintage Eagles". The aircraft was supposedly found at Gardelegen in April 1945.

The visible features of this aircraft are distinctively different when compared with the other known Fw190D-13s (WNr. 836016 and 836017):

  • The non-legible Werknummer is stencilled on the bottom of the fin
  • The Hakenkreuz is painted solidly as opposed to the outlined version on WNr. 836016
  • The exhaust panel is black, similar to early Focke-Wulf built D-9s and D-11s
Interesting aircraft, I am wondering if there is more information on it or further pictures are showing up in the future!

Best

Michael

How does one confirms it's Fw 190 D-13 from such a destroyed airframe?

Hi Milos,

It's good to see you online again after so many years!

To answer your question, the analysis in Vintage Eagle is based on the style of propeller (VS9) and spinner (shaft for engine mounted cannon).

It's nice to see the other photo to supply more information on the camouflage of this particular airframe.

Currently that accounts for at least 4 photographed 190D-13's with this airframe, 836017, 836016 and the machine shown on page 245 of the Japo 190D Part 2 book.

Cheers

Michael

Re: New Fw190D-13 picture

Hello Michael,

It feels good to be back. I never stopped fully buying books (just missed a few that I didn't know about because I was not following the forums & sites) but I was for sure away from the internet & places like TOCH LEMB & similar where all the info flows...

I was analyzing only the armament of the wreck and forgot to think about the prop. I am totally rusty when it comes to these "detective games". Such a pity! And I could have opened my version of Captured Eagles & check it after all

C U around!
Milos
