Hi Steve,

Heinz Kiehl doesn't give losses one these dates for any KG53 unit and I also didn't find the Lt's in the loss list.

Regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas, many thanks for your reply,
Yes i had also checked this publication without success too, i was curious to to know whether anybody may have the relevant NVM's for this unit,
that may help me nail these!

Kindest regs,
Steve.

Steve:

According to the EoE Luft Loss DB:

"August 1, 1940: 8./KG53 Heinkel He111H. Crashed near Giebelstadt on local flight, cause unknown. BO Lt [ ] Altvater and FF Lt [ ] Sadewig both killed (neither found VDK), rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft 100% write-off."

August 3, 1940: II./KG53 Heinkel He111H-2. Damaged in forced-landing at Lille-Vendeville airfield due to engine failure on operational mission. Lt [ ] Böhmert and two NCOs believed slightly injured. Aircraft 80% damaged – write-off."

Not much new here, although possibly the difference in name spelling between our info on the first incident and yours might account for why Peter Cornwell couldn't find these in the VDK list. I'm sure that he'll check this out.

Regards,

Hello Steve,

Peter did check out the alternative name spellings on item #1, but with no result. If you do produce any results from your search about the full names of these crewmen, please let me know and we'll update the DB.

Regards.

Matti,

Are these from the NVMs? Obviously the spelling of the names differs from what PC came up with for these losses.

There is no NVM for this accident available. However, the data is originated from WASt documents and should be more reliable than that from GQM.
