235 Squadron Codes

It was my understanding that 235 Squadron, which flew Blenheims during the Battle of Britain period, had the squadron code of LA, but in Ramsey/Cornwell's BOB Then and Now four separate 235 Squadron Blenhiem losses are listed as QY-E, QY-G, QY-S, and QY-F. But QY was used by 254 (Blenheim) Squadron. Are these listings correct?

Re: 235 Squadron Codes

Hi Peter,
I agree - 235 Squadron Blenheim's were LA and not QY.

All the photos I have seen show LA while Flintham and Thomas confirm QY is 254 Sqn

Re: 235 Squadron Codes

Have just read this post. Have you checked to see if the aircraft were on loan from the other squadron as seems to have happened with other Squadrons during the war ?

Re: 235 Squadron Codes

Thanks Chris and Gerry, comfirms my thoughts.
Alex, nothing in Form 540 or 541 re. aircraft loans, it is unlikely as 254 were operating in Dyce in Scotland, 235 were based at Bircham Newton and Thorney Island.
