info loss of 236 Squadron Beaufighter NV419, 28-29 December 1944
Dear all,
I am looking for further info on the loss of 236 Squadron Beaufighter Mk.X NV419 FA-I, which was lost during an anti-shipping sortie on the night of 28-29 December 1944. The pilot F/Sgt J. Gregg was uninjured, the navigator F/Sgt Peter George Lamb is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Panel 219. Was F/Sgt. Gregg rescued, and did he give a statement on how the Beau was lost? Cheers and thanks for any info, Theo |

Re: info loss of 236 Squadron Beaufighter NV419, 28-29 December 1944
Theo. From the 236 Sqn. ORB Summary and Record of events, 6 a/c were on armed recce. to Terschilling Harbour; no shipping in harbour. Before patrol started F/S Gregg made a controlled approach to the sea and a/c quickly submerged, at 16.14; NE664/J and NT942/B dropped smoke floats, at 18.15 a Warwick arrived and dropped a smoke float and an RAF launch picked Gregg up but no sign of navigator F/S Lamb.
Looks like NV419 was "L". Regards Nick |

Re: info loss of 236 Squadron Beaufighter NV419, 28-29 December 1944
Thanks Richard ands Nick -I was hoping that this loss could be tied to the following German night fighter claim, but I don't see a match:
Oblt. Walter Briegleb: 19 7./NJG2 Beaufighter sea 20 km NW Borkum (Jaguar): 30-50 m 19.13 I've no other Allied a/c losses/incidents that could possibly be tied to this German claim ... Cheers, Theo |

[quote=Theo Boiten;341847] Beaufighter Mk.X NV419 FA-I,
/QUOTE] Theo By 1944 236Sq had been assigned a new unit code MB and did not use their previous one, FA. Cheers Stig |
