IL-2 identity
All
Trying to nail down the serial of a straight wing IL-2 Painted Numbers found so far are: 60-88 and Ոr144 on the forward section of the wing spars. Any ideas? TIA Dave |

Re: IL-2 identity
Hello, Dave!
Could you specify what do you want to know? The start series of Il-2s with arrow wing? Or you just want to know is 60-88 and 144 could belong to straight wing model? |

It is a straight wing model, but I would like to know if the letters/numbers relate to the aircraft's serial number, so a history can be traced. However, I suspect they are just part numbers. Perhaps they may point to which factory it was built at though? regards Dave |

Re: IL-2 identity
Hello Dave,
88 was a 'famous' IL-2m3 batch in 1945 from Factory No.18. IL-2 No.1876088 belonged to the 8 VA, 227 ShAD, 208 ShAP and was shot down by enemy fighters on April 16, 1945 at Sammerau-SW, 2 km. Crew of Zhatilkin-Gluhov went missing. But, I think this plane was arrow winged. I have no other records for AC No.60-88. (If your numbers are serials.) Cheers, Gabor (Batch 88 was built in 1944, but these planes saw lots of action still in 1945.) |

Re: IL-2 identity
Could be, but I have not checked the map, just wrote what's in the report. Pilot flew some missions again, so he returned safely soon after the incident. His next plane was 18889116.
