I./JG1, 16-19 june 1940

Hi,

It is known that I./JG1 posted to A/F of Auxerre from 16 to 19 june 1940.

But are we able to know if they landed on morning or afternon ?

In fact is this unit already on the a/f of Auxerre-Monéteau before or after the straffing did by GC III/3 earlly in the afternoon ?

TIA

Bertrand

Hi Bertrand,

I do not pretend to answer to your request ... But!
....
What do you mean by "early in the afternoon" since the only one loss registered in GQM I know does concern one Ju87 at 15:00 (Local hour?) ?
...
I./JG27 did register three accidented Emils collided by a Do17. And the D520 strafing had nothing to do with that. Nothing for I./JG1.
....
Where were I./JG1 machines? (it's your question) In Chateauroux area where two machines collided after having taking off from ... Auxerre.

Both situations are described in Ring/Girbig, JG27, s.335; and Cornwell, BoF, s.479.

Hope this helps a little bit, somehow.

Cheers, Franck.

Hi Franck,

GC III/3 took off at 12h55 (French time).

Yes a/c of I./JG 27 were straffed by these Dewoitine but page 27 in the fabulous book "Du Fw 190 au NC 900" by René BOUVIER-BELLEVILLE & Philippe COUDERCHON we have a photo of 109 from 2./JG 1 taken at Auxerre.

Ads for this new book :

I would like to know if these 109 of I./JG 1 were already here when GC III/3 straffed...

Nevertheless up to today we can thought that he D520 strafing had nothing to do with the losses of Dornier 17 and 109s of I./JG 27. But if you read this book the circunstances revealed that the Do 17 landed during the time of the attack...
