Air attack on Convoy 'Faith', july 1943

I am looking for information about an air attack on convoy 'Faith' which took place at 20.10hrs GMT on 11 July 1943. Details in attached document.

So far as I know the Luftwaffe unit concerned belonged to KG 40, based at Merignac near Bordeaux. I particluarly want info on the type(s) of weapons used.

This convoy was attacked by 6 Fw 200 Condor of III/KG 40 .Each plane carried 4 SC 250 which were thrown from above 4000 m. 3 planes scored hits: 1 on the "California" and 2 on the "Duchess of York"

Re: Air attack on Convoy 'Faith', july 1943

Chris Goss has been in touch. He confirms that three FW 200 Condors from III/KG 40, based at Merignac, carried out the attack.

Each plane carried 4 x SC 250kg bombs which were dropped from high altitude without the aid of any guidance system. Just very accurate bombing.

So thanks for that, Chris
