Görings NSA: Das »Forschungsamt« im Dritten Reich. Die unbekannte Geschichte des größten Geheimdienstes der Nazis
https://www.amazon.de/G%C3%B6rings-N.../dp/3957681944
I found the following to be a bit surprising. "It was the largest intelligence service of the Nazis. Although the "Ministry of Research" of the Ministry of Aviation - as the name implied - was run by Hermann Goering as a private service, it resided in the middle of Berlin, and it was unknown not only to the German population but also to the Allies. Göring's listener, supported by the German Reichspost, did an excellent job. In peace and war they read hostile radio communications and listened to foreign governments and diplomats as well as German Nazi opponents. Even US President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill were intercepted. |

Re: Görings NSA: Das »Forschungsamt« im Dritten Reich. Die unbekannte Geschichte des größten Geheimdienstes der Nazis
Hi Ed,
This old standard has a chapter on Göring's Forschungsamt (Research Office) and, IIRC, it worked closely with the Abwehr and did a lot of cryptanalytic work on Allied hand- and machine ciphers. But they had little or nothing to do with military intelligence as we think of it. Kahn, David. Hitler’s Spies: German Military Intelligence in World War II. Hi Larry,
Thank you for that. My interest is in military intelligence gathering equipment. I will withhold further comment until I get this book. This also includes cryptographic methods and related devices. Documents continue to be declassified in the US. Best, Ed |

Indeed, I know of what you speak, Ed. Coincidence. If the names KW 7, KW 9 and KW 26 ring any bells, you'll know what I mean. NSA's declassified dumps into RG 457 have been and are pots of gold at the end of a rainbow for those interested.
