Bf109F, W. Nr. 8018 question.

Hallo gentlemen.

Yesterday, my friend found a Bf109F-2 Erla built wreck. Kh. Visly (Хутор Вислый), Rostov region, Semikarakorskiy district. 70km from Rostov to East.

Was shot down before date 13.01.1943.

W.Nr. is probably 8075 - 8266.

Any chance to find out, who was the pilot?

Re: Bf109F, W. Nr. 8018 question.

WNr. 8018 doesn't appear to be a valid WNr. and WNr. 8075 thru 8266 is a lot of machines, mostly Bf 109F-2s, most losses of which were prior to 13-Jan-43.

Can you add more information?

Re: Bf109F, W. Nr. 8018 question.

Hi.
Yes, 8018 is my mistake, it is a number of a part, not for whole aircraft.

I believe, the only Luftwaffe unit with F-2s in that area (Rostov) was JG52 in late 1941, isnt it? This aircraft is smashed into pieces, so probably we will never get aircraft W. Nr.
I am not sure if there were any F-2s flew over that area in 1942.

We are sure 100% that it is F-2 with DB601N, and it was built in Erla factory.

Re: Bf109F, W. Nr. 8018 question.

In the area "Semikarakorskiy district. 70km from Rostov to East" German fighter appeared first in May/June 1942. At that time all units in Southern Russia were equipped with the Bf109F-4.

The Luftwaffe units of interest in the area in the late 1941 were: III./JG 52 (Bf 109 F-4), 15.(kroat.)/JG 52 (Bf 109 E), II./JG 77 (Bf 109 E) and III./JG 77 (Bf 109 F-4).

The latter (III./JG 77) left the area in early October 1941 though.

Sinisa

Re: Bf109F, W. Nr. 8018 question.

Addition.
Bordnumber is Wellow 11, clearly visible on survived part of fuselage.

So, we have proven info
DB601N - engine info shield/badge
MG151/15 - remains
Bf109F - part/sistem info badge
70km East from Rostov (~50-60km on Soviet territory)
No pilot remains inside.
Aircraft remains smashed, plunged 3 metres into the ground, but not heavy burned.
Vbkz is Gelbe 11, wich mean 3./ or 6./ or 9./ Staffel.

That tell us, that the aircraft is Bf109F-2.

IMHO it must be from 9./JG52 and was list around november 1941 during a freie jagd behind enemy lines.

Are there any corresponding losses?

Evegeny, nema na čemu. You are welcome.

III./JG 52 never operated Bf 109 F-2s. It received a full complement of Bf 109 F-4s, in June 1941, while still based in Romania.

The logistics of operating a mix of Bf 109 F-2 and F-4s, would be complicated, because of different type of fuel, and generally speaking, unwarranted and unnecessary.

As for the 9./JG 52 losses. They are there, but do not think they are complete. In November 1941, the Red Army counterattacked and re-took Rostov (Ok, German army actually abandoned the city, for which Gerd von Rundstedt was relieved of his command), which was only the beginning of a miserable winter for the Wehrmacht.

Sinisa
