Additional info on 21 Nachtjäger?

Hi guys

I have seen information that states that Unteroffizier Albert Kreuzer of 2./JG 2 was killed in Fw 190 A-8 (W.Nr. 170 322) in aerial combat with USAAF P-47 fighters near Vendome on 11 May 1944. Is this correct? If he was engaged by 80 P-47 fighters then it is no wonder he did not make it out alive!

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Additional info on 21 Nachtjäger?

Hi Frans, Matti and Leo,

Many thanks indeed for your fine contributions, much appreciated! This clears quite a few of the questions that I had. The only one I'm not quite sure of is whether 'my' Hptm. Hitz of 7./NJG4 is Hptm. Günter Hitz of Stab I./SG 77. Hptm. Hitz of 7./NJG4 achieved one sole victory on 22-23.3.44, here's the entry in the manuscript of the NJWD 2nd ed (his name was pretty hard to decipher on the original microfilm records:

Hptm. Hitz: 1 7./NJG4 4-mot Münster-Osnabrück: 6.500 m. 21.37 97 Sqn Lancaster ND351. Note: victory Hptm. Hitz confirmed on 19.8.1944

Cheers, Theo

Re: Additional info on 21 Nachtjäger?

Very probably not the same Hitz.
1942-11-07, 2./St.G 77, Ju 87 D-1, 2364, Nordwestlich Nogir, nordnordwestlich Ordzonikidze
Flugzeugführer Olt Hitz, Günter, verletzt
Bordfunker Fw Wöllner, Fritz, verletzt
Flakbeschuß. Bruch 100 %.
1944-04-11, 1./SG 77, Ju 87 D-5, 141077, S2+LH, 3 km südwestlich Chodazkow
Flugzeugführer Hptm Hitz, Günter, vermißt
Bordfunker Fw Eschenbacher, Kurt, vermißt
Absturz infolge Flakbeschuß. Bruch 100 %.
EKM of Hitz was assigned in March 1940 by 1./St.G 77.
It would have been strange, if this Hptm Hitz was in the West in 7./NJG 4 in March 1944.

Re: Additional info on 21 Nachtjäger?

Hi Matti,

Thanks for that -it's exactly my reasoning too re. Hptm. Hitz, it would have been rather strange for Günter Hitz to pop up in the west for a short stint as a Nachtjäger in early 44.

Cheers, Theo
